Each Step Made Is a Step Towards Ending Animal Homelessness.
Run. Walk and Fundraise Today.
The 2017 Run for the Animals is a timed 5K run, with a 1K Fun Run option. All proceeds go to the animals in need at the SPCA St. John’s. Join us at the beautiful Octagon Pond in Paradise to help us help animals find happy beginnings.
There are several ways you can participate:
- as an individual or as a team
- with or without a dog or without
- walk/run 5K or 1K
Once you register online, you can create a personal page to raise funds if you choose. There will be a prize for the most funds raised by an individual and most funds raised by a team.

Registration at 10:30
5K Run/Walk starts at noon
1K Run/Walk starts at 12:30
Where: See map below.
The 5K is outlined in red. It will go up the Octagon Pond trail, around the elementary school on Sgt. Donald Lucas Drive and back down to the start/finish line.
The 1K is outlined in green. It will follow the same start route but will turn around in a large open area at 500 meters and go back to the start.
Why: To encourage physical fitness and outdoor activities with or without a furry friend while raising funds to help the animals in need through the programs at the SPCA ST. John’s.
I am not a runner, can I just walk?
Absolutely, you can keep whatever pace is comfortable to you. Walking is also great physical fitness!
Can I run/walk without a dog?
Sure! Walking/running is great exercise for dogs, too, but it is not required at all.
What about riding a bike?
Sorry, for safety reasons bikes will not be permitted on the trail with the runners. Strollers are fine for those with small children.
Is this a sanctioned race?
No, this is not a chipped race. There will not be a timekeeper or official results. But there will be bib numbers, a timer clock at the start point and certificates for completion.
When do we pick up our bibs?
You’ll get your bib number during registration. Sorry, we don’t have an early pickup option. .
Why do I need to register? Why can’t I just raise funds?
Registration give us important information for the event, such as how many bib numbers, volunteers and snacks and bottles of water we’ll need.
Will there be snacks and bottled water provided?
Yes, there will!
