Are you ready to adopt a cat? Cats can live up to 18 years – or more! Before you adopt, please consider the following:

Food Costs

Cats need to be fed according to their weight. There are a wide range of food choices out there. They vary in price – and quality. Be sure your budget allows you to feed your cat a healthy diet.

Scratching

This is a natural cat behaviour – don’t discourage it! Instead, provide your cat with scratching posts. Nail caps can also help keep your furniture safe. Our team is happy to provide you with advice on this topic.

Exercise

As much as we all love snuggle time, don’t forget that your cat needs exercise! Can you set aside time every day to play?

Grooming

Cats are masters of personal hygiene, and bathe themselves regularly. However, they will still need regular brushing and nail clipping.

Veterinary Care

We recommend taking your cat to the vet once a year for a health-check. You may also consider doing regular flea and deworming treatment. Finally, should an emergency arise, be sure to have the proper funds available. We recommend pet insurance, or setting money aside in a separate account for pet-related emergencies.

Age

Remember that kittens need more playtime than older cats. They can also be messier! Think about what you’d like your life with your cat to look like. If you’re out a lot, an older, calmer cat might be a better fit for you than a rambunctious kitten.
