OCCASIONALLY, A LANDLORD OR A NEW TENANT MAY FIND AN ANIMAL IN A VACATED HOME. IF YOU FIND AN ABANDONED ANIMAL ON YOUR PROPERTY IN ST. JOHN’S, PLEASE PHONE HUMANE SERVICES AT 311. IF YOU FIND AN ABANDONED ANIMAL ON YOUR PROPERTY OUTSIDE OF ST. JOHN’S, PLEASE PHONE (709) 726-0301 EXT. 101 TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION. WE WILL ARRANGE A TIME FOR YOU TO BRING THE FOUND ANIMAL IN.

Please note: We will require the contact information of the previous tenants of your apartment. Animal abandonment is a crime, and they may be charged and prosecuted. Please do not claim your own pet is an abandoned animal! If you need to surrender your pet, our staff will work with you to arrange an intake appointment for your pet that matches your needs and our availability.

Stray Animals

If you find a stray animal outside of St. John’s, please phone (709) 726-0301 ext. 101 to let us know. We do accept stray animals, but advance notice helps us arrange space for the animal before we get them in.

Note that we hold on to stray animals for 5 days. During this period, we actively search for the animal’s rightful owner via social media and other community organizations.

Please do not claim your pet is a stray. We keep any animal declared a stray for 5 days and to actively search for their owner. This results in your animal spending unnecessary time in a kennel! Being honest with us gives you the opportunity to give us valuable information about your pet’s history, personality, and preferences. It also allows us to put them up for adoption sooner.
